in Iraq Relief

Welcome Freshers!

SIMA is an academic society, set up in 2008, for ALL Cardiff University medical students. We offer peer-assisted teaching – getting the golden oldies in the years above to teach the medics in the years below. We put on numerous academic events throughout the year whilst collecting donations at these events in order to fundraise for our associated charity, Iraq Relief, hence ‘Iraqi’ being in the name of the society!

  • Provide you with a free copy of a thorough student recommended booklist (so you don’t waste money on expensive textbooks you won’t need)
  • Run two Anatomy Revision sessions – we provide hints and tips about the exams, concise revision notes with annotated diagrams and students in senior years to come and speak to you. Over the last few years this has been very popular, attracting over 450 medics in the last year. We make sure these are informal, interactive and enjoyable. We also give away helpful anatomy raffle prizes.
  • Run formative exam sessions – Prior to the Easter holiday; we run “mock exams” based on questions reviewed and approved by panel representatives and staff. This will help to familiarise yourselves with the exam format and feel more prepared for the finals in the summer.

Here are a few things we do for you:

Membership is only £4 for the year which includes free attendance at all sessions. We will be at the Health Care Freshers’ Fayre on Monday 26th September where you can sign up or you can easily sign up online through the Student’s Union website.

For more information about the charity we support please visit www.iraq-relief.org.

Feel free to contact Shoaib Hassan (President) at hassans9@cf.ac.uk or Rebecca Tsang (Senior Vice) at tsang_rc@cardiff.ac.uk if you have any questions!

Have a fantastic summer, see you in September!
