The Student Iraqi Medical Association (SIMA) is an academic society for ALL Cardiff University medical students from years 1 to 5 that was set up in 2008 with the aim of organising peer-assisted teaching – that is getting medics in the years above to help the medics in the years below with academic issues. We put on numerous academic events through out the year and in turn we collect donations at these academic events in order to fund raise for our associated charity, Iraq Relief, hence ‘Iraqi’ being in the name of the society!
For 1st year medics we provide you with a free copy of a thorough student recommended booklist (which will come in handy when you start buying expensive medical text books!) and hold 2 Anatomy revision sessions in the year to help make learning anatomy less overwhelming in which we give you hints and tips about the exam as dissection forms a significant part of the 1st year course. We are very experienced in delivering high quality Anatomy revision sessions which have attracted over 450 medics in the past year and they are enjoyable and informal events that will prove to be useful to you for exams. We also give away cool anatomy raffle prizes at these sessions!
Membership to the society is only £4 for the year which includes free attendance at both sessions. Only members can attend our academic events and signing up is very easy. We will be at the Health Care Freshers’ Fayre on Monday 27th September where you can sign up and you can also become a member by signing up online through the Student’s Union website.
